KREATED Start a Project

Fix the website first, or thesearch work? How to tell which you need.

It depends on which end is actually broken, and that is a checkable thing rather than a matter of opinion.

The short answer

Are people arriving and not contacting you, or is nobody arriving at all? If they arrive and do not call, fix the site. If almost nobody arrives, fix the visibility. If both are true, fix the site first, because sending traffic into a site that cannot convert it wastes the traffic you paid to get.

That ordering is not a preference. Search work takes months to compound. If it succeeds while the site still fails to convert, you have paid for visitors twice: once to attract them and again to lose them.

Find your situation

Seven, and they do not all have the same answer.

  • People find you, the site works, and they still do not call Fix the conversion path first. This is usually clarity, the contact path or trust, and it is the cheapest of all the fixes because it is mostly words. Your website gets visitors and no calls covers it.
  • The site is credible and almost nobody arrives Now the search work is the bottleneck. A good site nobody finds is the one case where visibility genuinely comes first.
  • One page covering nine services Neither, yet. There is nothing for the search work to rank, because the pages do not exist. Build the pages first, which is a website project, then the ongoing work has something to work with.
  • No Google profile, or one nobody has claimed Do that before either. It costs nothing but the time, and an unclaimed listing accounts for a surprising number of businesses that cannot understand why a perfectly good site is invisible. See Google Business Profile.
  • You cannot say in one sentence what you sell and to whom Neither will work until that is settled. Traffic to an unclear offer converts badly and search engines have the same trouble deciding what you should rank for.
  • The site is slow, broken on phones, or the form does not send Fix that first regardless of everything else. It is the only case with no trade-off to weigh.
  • Both are genuinely weak Site first, then visibility. Not because the site matters more, but because the site is faster, cheaper, and the thing the search work will eventually be pointing at.

Why the wrong order is expensive

Both mistakes, and they fail differently.

Search work on a site that cannot convert. You spend months becoming findable, succeed, and the extra visitors leave the same way the old ones did. The work was not wasted, but the return arrives late and the owner concludes that search does not work for their trade or their line of business.

A rebuild nobody sees. The more common mistake, because the site is the visible thing. A new site fixes clarity, contact path, mobile and trust. It does not, on its own, make you findable for the searches you are missing. If the actual problem was visibility, the phone is just as quiet afterward, at greater expense.

Both are avoidable by spending an hour establishing which end is broken before spending anything.

How to settle it without guessing

And what the check can and cannot see.

The Free Website Audit reads your site and reports across six areas, including whether the conversion path works and whether the local signals are there, with the evidence behind each judgment. Where it finds something worth doing, it recommends the specific work and what it would cost. Where it does not, it says so and recommends nothing.

From that result you can take the recommendation straight into Build Your Package on the pricing page and adjust it, so the decision this page describes ends in a scoped list rather than another opinion.

What it cannot see. It reads your public website only. Not your analytics, not Search Console, not your Google Business Profile, not anything private. It states which of those it did not inspect rather than implying it knows them.

Once you know which

Where each answer leads.

If it is the site and the bones are sound, Website Redesign. If there is nothing worth keeping, or the service pages do not exist, Web Design & Development. If it is visibility, Local SEO, and whether that is worth paying for is a fair question to settle first.
